"People on a budget don't have any money to spend...."
I can't tell you how many times I've read or heard this without giving it much thought.
Before I got married I lived with my parents, taught school to my school age siblings, cooked dinner every night, held a part time good paying job, did some college part time/debt free but gave little thought to budgeting.
I grew up watching my mom with stacks of paper around her, writing, erasing, thinking and budgeting to enable our family to live within our means.
Then I got married and my mother-in-law introduced me to the online budgeting program she uses and had recently got for us.
http://www.mvelopes.com/
It is the online form of using envelopes and I love it; it's so simple and realistic.
With a click of a button at every pay period an already planned out amount of money goes into each envelope. With a click of a button, at every purchase, I can enter how much I spent within a specific envelope and it automatically takes it out.
Mvelopes makes budgeting simple.
It also keeps record of spendings, shows averages and has charts of money going in and out.
Having a budget shows me that I do have money to spend.
Having a budget helps us to live within our means, eliminate credit cards or any debt.
Having a budget helps us set goals to one day buy a house (currently we rent) or save up for other future purchases like a vehicle.
"Where there is no vision, the people perish" Proverbs 29:18.
